Lagos Environmental Officials

Four officers from the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI) were reportedly attacked by hoodlums while enforcing regulations against the illegal discharge of untreated wastewater, fats, and oils.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Yakoyo Abula Restaurants, 134 Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island, during a joint enforcement operation.

According to Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the restaurant had tampered with a government seal, which escalated tensions and prompted the violent attack on officials carrying out their lawful duties.

“The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal but also unleashed armed thugs on officials performing their duties. This crosses every line,”
Wahab stated in a post on X on Wednesday.

He warned that such acts of violence and obstruction would not be tolerated.

“Any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty will face decisive action. Affected premises will be sealed, and perpetrators will be prosecuted, he emphasized.

The Commissioner reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to upholding law and order, stating, “We will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos. No one is above the law, and attempts to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences.”

Following the attack, authorities arrested the restaurant’s supervisor and sealed the establishment pending further investigations. Additional arrests are expected as officials continue to identify all individuals involved in the assault.
