A woman has shared a disturbing update from the scene of the Great Nigeria Insurance House fire in the Balogun Market area of Lagos Island, reporting that bodies have been recovered even as the blaze continues days after it first broke out.
The massive fire broke out on Christmas Eve, December 24, at the 22–25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, where traders stored goods and materials ahead of the festive rush.
The blaze quickly spread through multiple floors and engulfed neighbouring structures, forcing urgent firefighting and rescue operations.
Emergency responders battled the inferno for hours, with crews from Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, Federal Fire Service and other agencies on the ground trying to contain the flames and rescue those trapped inside.
