Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Mary Njoku has shared a candid message for those currently in the hospitality industry and those aspiring to join it.

Speaking from experience, she used her Instagram platform to stress the importance of professionalism and the right attitude in customer-facing roles.

In a thought-provoking post, Mary cautioned individuals who enjoy “premium wickedness” against pursuing careers in hospitality.

She explained that jobs requiring direct interaction with customers—such as positions in restaurants, hotels, front desks, and visa centres—demand patience, professionalism, and a genuinely welcoming demeanor. According to her, a negative attitude in these roles not only affects the customer experience but also harms the reputation and success of the business.

Mary suggested that those who find it challenging to maintain a positive front should consider behind-the-scenes positions, such as back-office roles or storekeeping, where they can work effectively without compromising customer experiences.

She wrote: "Please, if you enjoy witchcraft, premium wickedness, hospitality is not for you. There are many other roles, such as back-office and storekeeping, where you don’t have to interact directly with customers.

Customer-facing jobs like restaurants, hotels, front desks, and visa centres require patience, professionalism, and a welcoming attitude. When that’s missing, it affects people’s experiences and hurts businesses.

This is a simple plea. If you know this isn’t your strength, please consider roles behind the scenes where you can practice your wickedness and bitterness freely with good job security. Thank you."

Mary Njoku’s message has resonated with many of her followers, sparking discussions on the importance of temperament, professionalism, and the often-overlooked challenges of working in hospitality.

Her advice serves as a reminder that while talent and ambition are valuable, emotional intelligence and a customer-oriented mindset are equally critical in service-driven industries.
