The Oyo State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough following the arrest of several high-profile criminals across the state. Some suspected kidnappers, ritualists, and armed robbers have been taken into custody by the Oyo State Police.
According to the command, the suspects were detained at various times and places throughout the state, and certain objects were taken from them as evidence.
During a news conference in Ibadan on Thursday, Oyo Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga provided the information, pointing out that the suspects had admitted to the different acts, He said that investigations are still ongoing to arrest more suspects, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Olugbenga said, “On 24h February, 2026, a case involving removal of vehicles from where parked was transferred from Ojoo Division, to Monitoring Unit of the Oyo State Police Command with one Adegboyega Joseph as a suspect.
During the investigation, nine (9) Toyota Cars Keys were recovered as exhibit, Further discreet investigation later led to the arrest of one suspected receiver who later identified himself as Adebayo Muideen.
Adeyemi Abiodun was one of the suspects detained and one pump-action gun, six life cartridges, two expended cartridges, phones and other valuable items were recovered from his possession.
After being questioned, the suspect admitted to taking part in a string of armed robberies that were planned at several places throughout Ibadan and the surrounding area. Three further members of the gang, Olaoluwa Ponle "M," Ahmed Ismaila, and Gbolabo Adisa, were apprehended after a joint team of police officers from the Command Monitoring Unit and Akobo Division attacked their illegal hideout.
Alfa Egbinola Tijani, a suspected ritualist, was detained in the Ogbere Tioya neighborhood of Ibadan on April 14, 2026, based on reliable information. Alawiye Lateef Abaniseloluwa Abass and Kehinde Ajao were arrested at various locations in Ibadan as a result of his confession.
The 20th of January, 2026, Six members of a well-known abduction gang, reportedly armed with AK-47 riffles, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, invaded the residence of one Supodu Saheed at Baabi village via Oyo town in Oyo State.”
