Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, says bad network signal is a big problem for people in villages.
It affects both health care and the way people earn a living.
He spoke in Bende, Abia State, on Friday while opening the first rural telecom tower in the area.
He said a patient in an emergency in a village may not get help at all if there is no network.
The government has started building 3,700 tower masts in villages across the country to fix this.
Tijani asked traditional rulers in Bende to protect the new tower from vandals.
House Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu said he brought the project to Bende to help his people, who have struggled with poor network for years.
He thanked Governor Alex Otti for not blocking the project.
He also told Bende traditional rulers not to deny land to projects that lawmakers bring to their communities.
Kalu also criticised some governors who stop opposition members from bringing projects to their states.
