Abubakar Sanusi, a suspected railroad vandal, has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command, and a consignment of vandalized railroad slippers has been discovered in Bauchi's Doya Quarters.
SP Nafiu Habib, the command's spokeswoman, confirmed this in a statement provided to the reporters on Wednesday.
Habib stated that the arrest and recovery followed genuine intelligence received by the command regarding the vandalism of railroad properties in the state capital.
He stated that the intelligence was obtained on August 17, 2026, at approximately 12:30am, causing agents from the 'A' Division Township to take action.
According to him, the operatives discovered the stolen railroad materials in a residential structure in Doya Quarters.
He stated, "In response, operatives attached to 'A' Division Township swiftly swung into action and traced the stolen items to a residential building in Doya Quarters, as against the expectation that such exhibits would be concealed in a warehouse or government facility."
Habib also stated that the full consignment of vandalized railroad footwear was recovered and taken to the police station.
He claimed, "As a result, the entire consignment of vandalized railroad footwear was collected and transported to the station.
The operation completed at approximately 0330hrs on August 18, 2026, with the arrest of a male suspect, Abubakar Sanusi, in connection with the crime."
According to the PPRO, the investigation is still on to find and detain further syndicate members who are allegedly responsible for the vandalism.
Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed the command's dedication to safeguarding vital infrastructure and national assets.
Aliyu issued a warning that anyone caught damaging or vandalizing government property would be subject to the full force of the law.
"Anyone found engaging in vandalism or destruction of government property will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law," the CP declared.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
It added, “We call on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station and support in the protection of national assets, anywhere and always.”
