Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has announced that the top graduates from Lagos State University for the academic years 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 will each get a financial gift of N20 million.
The declaration was made by the governor on Wednesday during the 29th and 30th joint convocation ceremonies at the LASU main campus in Ojo.
Ayilara Olawale, the top graduating student for the 2024–2025 session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, the top graduating student for the 2025–2026 session, are the recipients, according to a statement posted online by Sanwo-Olu's New Media assistant, Jubril Gawat.
Gawat wrote, “Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu and Visitor of the Lagos State University (LASU) today announced a cash gift of 20 million Naira (20,000,000) EACH for the Best Graduating Student(s) of the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Session(s).”
Olawale, who studied Project Management Technology, graduated with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class Honours, while Oluolamide, an Aerospace Engineering graduate, recorded a 4.97 CGPA, also graduating with First Class Honours.
According to the statement, each of the two graduates would get a N20 million cash gift.
Sanwo-Olu claimed that the cash present was a personal donation in the video that was posted with the statement.
"Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide and Ayilara Lawal Olawale, you will each receive 20 million naira," he declared.
The announcement was made just days after Oluolamide was named LASU's overall top graduating student for the 2025–2026 academic year and was awarded a separate N10 million cash prize by the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Program.
Prior to the simultaneous convocation ceremony, LASU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello declared the top two graduating students, according to PUNCH Online.
Over 20,000 students, including 494 first-class graduates, were expected to graduate throughout the two academic sessions, according to the institution.
Olawale, who graduated with a B.Tech (Honors) in Project Management Technology, claimed that his accomplishment was the result of divine favor.
"I am incredibly grateful to have been named Lagos State University, Ojo's Best Graduating Student for the 2024–2025 Session. Allah's grace was the source of each victory.
He posted online, "Here's to bigger dreams, impact, and a lifetime of excellence."
Oluolamide wrote, "4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honors in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University," to commemorate his accomplishment. official approval from the Senate.
"All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way," he continued. There is nothing that God cannot accomplish.
