Niger Imposes 24 Hour Curfew After 37 Miners Die in Custody

Niger State has announced a 24-hour curfew after protests broke out following the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in police custody.

Niger State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew following protests over the death of 37 suspected illegal miners.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced the curfew at a press conference on Friday.

It takes effect immediately after Juma'at prayers Friday.

The curfew comes after the deaths of 37 miners arrested for alleged illegal mining activities on Thursday, September 17.

They were found dead while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.

The Police Commissioner ordered an investigation into the incident.
