Delta Governor Brings Back Suspended Commissioner After 10 Weeks

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has lifted the suspension of Works Commissioner Reuben Izeze after 10 weeks.

Izeze appealed for forgiveness and agreed to face the public.

Oborevwori announced this on Tuesday during a swearing-in ceremony.

He said Izeze sent him a message that morning asking for forgiveness.

The commissioner said he had just returned from prison and wanted Oborevwori to tell the public.

Oborevwori said his system is different. Nobody is above the law.

When you're in government, you must behave well.

He said Izeze's willingness to face the public and his plea influenced him to lift the suspension.

Izeze was suspended indefinitely on August 10 for allegedly assaulting the Governor's Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi.

The assault happened during an APC stakeholders meeting at the Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun.

Before the suspension, Izeze was taken to court over the alleged assault and remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Okere, Warri.

The court ordered 14 days remand pending further proceedings.

The state government said the suspension was necessary to allow security agencies to investigate impartially without interference.

Now Izeze can resume work when the 10 weeks from his suspension date are completed.
