Afenifere Leader Sola Ebiseni Quits Labour Party for APC, Backs Tinubu

The Secretary-General of the Afenifere pan-Yoruba group, Sola Ebiseni, has stepped down from his role after leaving the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Ebiseni, who until resigning was a Labour Party leader and South-West head of Peter Obi's 2023 presidential campaign, made the move public during a meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.

The former Afenifere secretary also backed President Tinubu's bid for a second term at the meeting at Government House in Akure.

Ebiseni said his backing for the President's second term matches the views of most Nigerians and political leaders that the presidency should stay in southern Nigeria for the country's political stability.

He noted that politics is local and as a leader of his Ilaje coastal people in Ondo State, a major road project for the region is the most life-changing work for them.

He said he is joining President Tinubu to ensure it gets full implementation, especially its right coastal alignment in the state.

The governor welcomed Ebiseni and his supporters and promised they would have full backing in the APC campaign across all elections.

Aiyedatiwa said Ebiseni's wide political experience, including his past role as chairman of the old Ilaje-Ese-Odo Local Government and his work as a commissioner in Ondo State, would help the campaign for Tinubu's re-election.

The governor also said Ebiseni's work as Afenifere Secretary-General and his involvement in other groups would be valuable assets to the party's campaign work.
