APC Chairman Says North Could Lose Most If Tinubu Loses 2027 Election

APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has said the North would be the biggest loser if President Bola Tinubu does not win a fresh mandate in the 2027 elections.

He spoke on Monday while receiving some members of the ADC who defected to the ruling party.

They were led by Princess Aslam Aliyu.

Yilwatda listed ongoing and completed road projects across the region and said most beneficiaries of the student loan fund NELFUND come from the North.

Reacting to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar's vow to bring back fuel subsidy, he said northern states gained more from its removal.

He claimed that before Tinubu took office most states in the region could not pay workers salaries or pensioners gratuities.

He asked how the opposition would return subsidy without stopping road construction, since there would be no money for it.

He also pointed to gas coming to the North, which he said will come with fertiliser that northern farmers need, as well as CNG that makes transport easier for vulnerable people.

He said students who cannot afford fees would be sent back to the villages as wheelbarrow pushers if the student loan stopped.

He said among about 30 states that could not pay salaries in 2023, none in the North could pay, and going back would only bring more poverty.

Speaking for the defectors, Honourable Mohammed Hassan asked the APC leadership to accept them as brothers and partners.

He said they came not just to change platform but to start a new chapter of service by backing Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda 2027, and promised to support the party, mobilise their people and promote development with sincerity.
