Troops Rescue 41 Travellers After Bandits Attack Broken Down Bus in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 41 travellers abducted by bandits after their commercial vehicle broke down on a highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The victims were 24 men, 10 women and seven children.

The operation said in a statement on Tuesday that the vehicle was travelling from Senegal to Kano State when it developed a fault and left the passengers stranded.

The bandits took advantage and tried to move the passengers into the nearby bush.

Acting on intelligence, troops rushed to the scene and engaged the gunmen with superior firepower.

The bandits abandoned the victims and fled into nearby farmlands. All 41 victims were rescued unharmed.

The rescued travellers are receiving support and will be reunited with their families and transit authorities.

Troops remain in the area to protect travellers and hunt down the fleeing suspects.

The rescue comes as the military continues operations across the North-West to disrupt bandit activities and protect communities and highway users.
