Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 16 terrorists in an ambush on a terrorist hideout in the Boima area of Gombi Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

The army also said it lost three soldiers in attacks on two of its bases.

Military Information Officer Capt Mohammed Goni shared the details in a statement on Thursday.

He said the incidents happened between September 30 and October 1, 2026.

After the Boima ambush, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and a belt of pump-action cartridges.

Goni said the Air Component also carried out a strike in the early hours of October 1.

Around 4:40am, a surveillance platform spotted about 16 terrorists gathered with 15 motorcycles under a tree.

An air strike followed at 5:30am and hit the target.

A few survivors ran away in disarray.

Meanwhile, insurgents attacked troop locations at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha.

Troops fought back and forced the attackers to retreat. Goni said three soldiers died in the fight.

The wounded were quickly evacuated and are now in stable condition receiving treatment.

He added that mop-up operations in the area are still ongoing.

Goni said the gains came during the ongoing reshuffle of the Headquarters Theatre Command, which is meant to improve joint operations and bring in relevant stakeholders.

He said the new approach is already paying off through better coordination of land and air forces.

He assured that the command will keep up its aggressive posture and use intelligence, technology and joint capabilities to deny terrorists freedom of movement in the North-East.

He said troops remain resolute in defending the country as Nigerians mark the Independence anniversary.
