President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will bring down the cost of living.
He made the promise on Thursday in his nationwide broadcast to mark the 66th Independence Day anniversary.
He said Nigeria has enough land and people to feed the whole nation, and that his government is focused on expanding mechanised irrigation and dry-season farming.
He also promised better access to seeds and fertiliser.
Tinubu added that his administration is building and completing roads, railways and ports that link farms and factories to markets.
He said the top priority is to cut the cost of living by lowering the cost of producing and moving the things Nigerians consume.
According to him, when farmers produce more cheaply, fewer crops are lost on the way to market, manufacturers spend less on electricity, trucks reach their destinations faster and businesses compete fairly, the savings will show up in the price of goods.
He said prosperity needs more than cheaper goods and that it also requires productive work.
Our priority is to bring down the cost of living. We will achieve this by lowering the cost of producing and moving the things Nigerians consume.
