Works Minister David Umahi says the Lagos Calabar coastal highway is still on track and moving faster than planned.
He spoke to reporters at the State House on Monday and rejected claims that the government has dropped the project.
He said the plan waiting for Federal Executive Council approval is to add a 400 kilometre East West road to the project.
The road starts in Edo State and runs through Delta, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Some sections near Agbarho in Delta were cut by floods, and the Delta governor stepped in to help.
Umahi gave an update on the work.
Section one, a 47 kilometre stretch in Lagos, is fully built.
Section two, which is 55 kilometres, should be ready by mid November.
Sections three A and three B are underway, with over 40 percent done in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
Section four A and four B, which run through Ogun and Ondo, are also in progress.
Section five, a 62 kilometre stretch in Akwa Ibom, is over 20 percent complete.
He said the president asked for work to start from both ends of the four legacy road projects.
He added that survey teams are already working in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers to map the rest of the route.
