The Red Chamber has cancelled its scheduled trip to South Africa to address the resurgence of xenophobia which has affected Nigerians and other nationals of other countries.
The Nigerian Senate has pulled out of the trip to South Africa on the issue of the xenophobia to allow the House of Representatives a single representation.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu after a closed door session before the commencement of the House plenary on Wednesday.
Before now, Ekweremadu was expected, in line with the House’s unanimous decision, to lead six members of the House to South Africa in order to meet with the country’s parliament on the lingering xenophobic attacks against Nigerians based in South Africa.
While Senate delegates pulled out of the trip, six members of the House of Representatives, led by Majority Leader Femi Gbajabiamila are expected to touchdown South Africa.
