French defender Ibrahima Konate is set to depart Liverpool when his contract runs out next month, after the two parties failed to reach an agreement on a new deal, according to multiple British media outlets reporting on Friday.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who has been at Merseyside for five years following his move from Leipzig, had suggested just last month that he was close to signing a new contract.

However, reports indicate that negotiations ultimately broke down over financial terms.

Konate's exit will make him the third high-profile departure from Liverpool this summer, following Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah and Scottish defender Andy Robertson, who have already left the club.

As a replacement, Liverpool have secured the signing of centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from French club Rennes in a deal worth 70 million euros ($81.3 million).

However, the 20-year-old missed the final four months of the season through a shoulder injury, raising questions about his immediate availability.

With Konate leaving, club captain Virgil van Dijk, now 34, will be in need of an experienced defensive partner as Liverpool look to address the defensive vulnerabilities that contributed to their disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League this past season.
