Republican presidential frontrunner, Donald Trump, in an interview, has praised Kanye West on Thursday after the rapper suggested that he plans to run for president in 2020.

On Sunday night at the annual MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West sent shocking waves to his fans worldwide which sent the internet abuzz when he capped off his 13-minute acceptance speech by announcing his plan to run for the President of the United States in 2020.

“It’s not about me. It’s about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for President,”  Mr West declared.

Ever since, comparisons between Kanye and Republican presidential frontrunner, Donald Trump have abounded. Jimmy Kimmel pointed out in a recent video, they do have at least a few things in common, like bombast, a deep desire to be liked and an obsession with media ratings.

A market research firm even got a head start on polling for Kanye's 2020 bid, and found that Trump would beat Kanye in a hypothetical election held yesterday.

Rolling Stone magazine got a chance to ask the presidential candidate during an exclusive sit-down interview at his offices in Trump Tower on Tuesday for his thoughts on this issue. It turns out Trump is a big Kanye fan and believes the feeling is mutual:

"He's said very nice things about me in the past... extremely positive things. I was actually watching, I saw him [announce his candidacy on the VMAs], and I said, 'That's very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea?'

"He's actually a different kind of person than people think. He's a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday."

Trump also revealed at a press conference that Kanye loves him.

"He goes around saying Trump is my all-time hero. He says it to everybody. I've been a counter-puncher. I only hit people when they hit me and Kanye West has been so great I would never say bad about him because he's never said not nice things about me."
