Nollywood actor and Former Chairman (Southwest) of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Hakeem Rahman, has criticised a recent court ruling that nullifies the position of actress Ibinabo Fiberesima as the National President of the guild.
Rahman argued that the ruling is at the detriment of the industry’s growth and development. He insisted that despite the court ruling, his support remains in favour of Ibinabo because with the realities on ground, she was properly elected, and has done a lot to the benefit of members within a short period of time.
"Ibinabo, shortly after being elected, got an 18-seater bus and a good office for AGN. She carried all actors in diaspora along with her programmes and her leadership has human face. That is why the court ruling was amazing and damaging. The court listened to a charlatan. That was a grave mistake.
"We still see her (Ibinabo) as our leader, and she has not even desisted from touching people. We still celebrate her as our leader though she doesn’t want to be addressed as president for now.
"The court should lift that ban on her because this is a lady that has united AGN by involving more female actors and other aggrieved members. I have not benefited directly from her, but honestly I’m speaking the mind of every member," Rahman concluded.
It can be recalled that on March 16, a Federal High Court slammed an indefinite ban on Ibinabo, halting her reign as the president of AGN, after she was challenged in the court by actor Emeka Ike and a couple of other AGN members.
