Christianity is often regarded as the peaceful religion that is not guilty of any offense against humanity — there’s an interminable effort to portray Christianity as never violent, while the tenets of Christianity are rooted in love, there are extremist Christian terrorist groups and sects that have meted out dehumanizing acts on people. It is lopsided, and it creates a warped perception of other religions if the mainstream media doesn’t give Christian terrorist groups the same coverage as ISIS and Boko Haram.
Eastern Lightning (The Church Of The Almighty God)
The church of the almighty God popularly known as the Eastern Lightning was founded in Henan Province of China in 1990. They are a Christian cult that holds firm to the belief that the world is coming to an end, and it is their duty to kill demons. They believe that Jesus Christ will come back as a Chinese woman. They’ve executed violence like killing a grammar student in 2010. Min Yongjun, a member of the Eastern Lightning attacker a woman and a group of schoolchildren with a knife in Chenpeng in 2012.
The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA)
The Lord’s Resistance Army is a Christian rebel and militant group founded by Joseph Kony, a radical Christianist, in Uganda in 1987. One of their mission is to establish a Serb Christian fundamentalist government in Uganda. On July 8, 2005, the international criminal court(ICC) issued warrants against Joseph Kony and some of his commanders; they were guilty of 12 counts of crimes against humanity that ranged from murder, enslavement to rape, and another 21 counts of war crimes that included intentionally directing an attack against civilians, inciting rape, forcefully enlisting children into rebel ranks. ICC issuer a warrant for Kony’s arrest as he was found filth of over 10,000 murder and abduction cases; enslavement of over 24,000 children. It’s terrorism spread from Uganda to Congo, The Central African Republic, and South Sudan.
Concerned Christians
Concerned Christians were formed in 1990 by pastor Monte Kim Miller in Denver. They were one of the Christian groups that believed that the mosque must be destroyed to enable the return of Jesus Christ. They believe that the Jews must be converted to Christianity, while some believe in violently chasing all Muslims out of Israel. In 1999, Israeli security officials arrested 14 members of The Concerned Christians in Jerusalem and deported them from Israel for plotting terrorist attacks against Muslims. They targeted the al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Army Of God
The Army Of God has been active since the early 1980s. They openly promote killing abortion providers, and there’s a long list of terrorists who were active in the organization. Paul Jennings Hill was executed by lethal injection in 2003 for killing an abortion doctor, John Britton, and his bodyguard, James Barrett. The Army of God also has a history of promoting violence against gay people.
There are many other Christian terrorist groups that have caused chaos in the society, but mainstream media will always give a distorted perspective that fosters stereotypical reasoning towards other religions that their terrorist acts are popularly reported.
