Drama As Coronavirus Expert Licks Finger While Warning People Not To Touch Their Mouths (Photos)

A coronavirus expert licked her finger in the middle of a press conference – just moments after warning people not to touch their faces.

Dr Sara Cody, from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department in California, said that the advice she was giving was "straightforward" but seconds later broke it herself.

The health expert was giving advice in the wake of California suffering its first COVID-19 death today.

“Today, start working on not touching your face – because the main way viruses spread is when you touch your own mouth nose or eyes," she said.

She then licked her finger

Less than a minute later, Dr Cody licks her finger to turn a page of her notes while giving further advice about hygiene.

In her speech, she said: “We need to begin implementing additional measures to prevent this spread of novel coronavirus or at least slow it down as much as possible.

“So these are the measures that we are recommending for individuals and for communities. For individuals, the recommendation is relatively straightforward and effective and important.

“So first, keep your hands clean. This is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others and always cover your cough and stay home when you’re sick."
