A DPO in Bauchi has been accused of torturing three men, leaving two dead and one seriously wounded after they were accused of stealing chickens.
The men were arrested for allegedly stealing seven chickens and selling them.
When they were caught, the man they sold the chickens to was allegedly ordered to pay two thousand Naira each for 13 chickens, instead of the 7 chickens sold to him.
The suspects were also ordered to pay 4,000 Naira and their parents paid a total of 12,000 Naira.
However, the police didn't release the men to their parents. It was alleged that they asked the parents to go and their sons would be released later. However, after the parents left, the DPO allegedly ordered the suspects to be tied up and beaten.
One allegedly died on the spot, the second died in a hospital and the third suffered multiple fractures.
A parent of one of the victims opened up to BBC Hausa about the incident.
