A leading politician has revealed that two Peoples Democratic Party power weights will join APC soon.
Atiku Abubakar
A prominent Nigerian politician and member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Olusegun Bamgbose has revealed that Atiku Abubakar and Uche Secondus will join the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku was a former Presidential candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party while Secondus is party's current national chairman.
According to DailyPost, Bamgbose claimed that Abubakar and Secondus have become helpless with the current exodus from the PDP and may have no choice but join the bandwagon soon.
He noted that this was an era of defections, of which the APC has been the greatest beneficiary with the big wigs from PDP and other parties joining the ruling party.
Recall that a former governorship aspirant in Abia State, Alex Oti recently moved from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA to APC.
Also, Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, moved from the Social Democratic Party, SDP, to the APC
Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, Rtd, is now also a member of the APC in Abia State and Gbenga Daniel, former Ogun State Governor and former Atiku’s campaign manager decamped to the APC with Femi Fani-Kayode being strongly rumoured to be on his way to the ruling party.
And with the recent happenings, Bamgbose noted that the PDP is fast becoming Peoples Deserted Party, PDP.
“This is really unfortunate and frustrating. This is a party that boasted some years ago to rule Nigeria for 50 years. How are the mighty falling in the midst of battles,” he said in a chat with DAILY POST on Thursday.
“It’s however most unfortunate that Atiku Abubakar is yet to find a solution to nip in bud these numerous defections that have almost turned PDP to a ghost party.
“David Umahi, Eboyin Governor had last year defected to APC and most likely some PDP Governors may do same soon. Atiku Abubakar is helpless and may have no choice but join the bandwagon soon. Secondus is equally helpless.
“He has not been able to do anything to arrest the situation. The party has lost its opposition status. Atiku’s presidential ambition is in serious danger as he has been unable to arrest the defections.
“However the defectors are to be seen as fair weather politicians. My question to them, especially for those who decamped from PDP to APC is, will they have defected to APC if PDP were to be in power?
“This is one million Naira question I want them to answer. If APC loses to another party in 2023, they may equally defect. The activities of our recent day politicians leave more to be desired,” he added.
