It was serious tension that took over various Tsafe Local Government Area communities of Zamfara State on Thursday as residents protested against the constant banditry activities ravaging the area for over a decade, according to Daily Post.

It was gathered that it was a peaceful protest as nobody was killed and no damages were recorded.

According to a commuter, Alhaji Musa Abdulahi, the road linking Gusau, the state capital, and Zaria was entirely blocked for over five hours as the angry protesters refused to open the roads for free movement of people.

”I and many other passengers were stranded as most of the commuters resorted to plying tricycles to reach Gusau after several hours of appeals to the protesters which they refused to listen to.

“Three of us therefore hired a tricycle with the sum of N1,500 each to ensure we get to Gusau,” he said.

He further explained that the constant bandit attacks in all communities of the LGA and the absence of security agencies during these attacks were the causes of the protest.

“As at the time we left Tsafe town around 5:40 pm the protesters were standing red signals that they would not leave the highway until security operatives assure them of confronting the named bandits and securing their entire Local Government Area,” he added.

DAILY POST reports that although no loss of life was recorded, travellers were left stranded for hours despite the appeals made by the security agencies to the protesters.

Information from the source revealed that there were women, children and the aged among the protesters from over 15 communities.

When contacted, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Shehu Mohammed, confirmed the incident assuring the people of the Local Government Area that the command is making more efforts toward enhancing and improving the security situation in the area.
