The suspect, David Okon
A 30-year-old man, David Okon, has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State for allegedly vandalising transformers and armoured cables worth millions of naira.
The suspect, who hailed from Okpon community in the Abak Local Government Area of the state, was arrested with the stolen items in his car with number plate ABC 223 LK
Other items recovered from the suspect included a spanner, handsets and other tools used in committing the crime.
The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Abidemi Majekodunmi, while parading the suspect at the command headquarters, Uyo, said other collaborators in the act were being trailed by operatives of the command.
He said, “We have a case of vandalisation of transformers and we have a suspect here today. His name is David Utibe Okon. We have done a first information report on the case. We have debriefed him and discovered that this was an act of conspiracy involving other parties as well.
“We accosted this vehicle through strategic partnership with other critical partners. We are deeply concerned because government makes provision for public utilities and some people act in an anti-social manner and destroy these utilities for personal greed.”
While urging residents to see themselves as owners of public utilities, the commandant vowed that vandals of public utilities would not be spared.
