The Delta State Police Command has condemned the actions of its officers in a viral video attacking a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
In a statement released by the Delta State Police spokesperson, the Command condemned the attack.
The Police added that the incident happened in August 2021 and it was investigated immediately, with the erring officers "subjected to internal disciplinary mechanism".
The statement reads: "The attention of the Delta State Police Command has been drawn to a video making round on various social media handles.
"The video captured Policemen attached to Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command assaulting a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
"The Command condemns the act of the Policemen in totality.
"The Command wishes to state that the incident occurred sometime in the month of August 2021 and immediately it was brought to the knowledge of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ directed the incident be looked into which has since been done and the erring Policemen indeed found guilty of assault and were subjected to internal disciplinary mechanism after which they were adequately sanctioned.
"The CP while condemning the malfeasance conduct of the officers also urges members of the public to remain calm and assured of the Command’s commitment in dealing with any officer who disregard the human right of any person.
