According to a report by Daily Trust, one life has been lost in an inter-communal clash between two rival groups over a lingering traditional title and land dispute in Doko, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
Daily Trust gathered that there had been a lingering dispute over who should be the village head of Doko which degenerated on Friday night, leading to a face-off between two rival groups in the community.
Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the clash and loss of life to our correspondent.
He said a yet-to-be-identified group of hoodlums on April 1, attacked the residence of Mohammed Yan-Nda of Tswata area of Doko village, Lavun LGA who is the father of one Mubarak reported to have stabbed a victim on the same date.
“The hoodlums mobilized to Mohammed’s residence in reprisal of the injury sustained by the victim, and lynched him to death while they equally vandalized some of his property and some neighbouring houses and fled the scene,” he said.
Abiodun said policemen have been drafted to the village and an effort was ongoing to apprehend the hoodlums and restore normalcy in the area.
