Stay Away From N' Assembly Affairs, Group Warns APC

Following the on-going scuffle in the All Progressive Congress over the election of the leadership of the National Assembly, a pro-Peoples Democratic Party group, Save PDP Group, has warned the leadership of the APC to stay away from National Assembly affairs.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, The group’s chairman, Chief Perry Opara said that such interference would be taken as undermining democratic tenets. Opara also noted that the initial rejection of the election of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, amounted to a show of shame.

“We are in a democracy. No party should dictate to elected members of the National Assembly who should be first amongst equals,” Opara said

While warning that APC’s meddlesomeness would not be good for Nigeria’s democracy, the PDP chieftain congratulated Saraki and Dogara for their victory during the elections.

“The emergence of Saraki/Dogara has shown that the new members of the National Assembly are credible persons who have the interest of Nigeria at heart. We salute the courage of our elected members of the 8th National Assembly,” he said.
