The Francis Catholic Church located in Owo, Ondo State, reopened for religious activities on Sunday, April 9, about ten months after the church was attacked by gunmen.
The PUNCH reports that on June 5, 2022, gunmen attacked the church and killed some of the worshippers while others were left injured.
The governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, had visited the scene to commiserate with the church and the entire town.
Relief materials and funds were donated to victims and families of those who lost their loved ones.
In March 2023, Akeredolu disclosed that the construction of a memorial park in honour of the victims of the attack has begun.
The governor of the state is an indigene of the town.
