Reno Omokri, a popular social media influencer and former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has condemned the attack on Labour Party’s factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa, at the Presidential Petition Tribunal.
Omokri on Wednesday disclosed this through his verified Twitter handle.
Recall that Apapa was attacked by supporters of his rival, Julius Abure, shortly after the duo had an altercation over a sitting position at the tribunal.
Omokri, reacting to the development, said it would have been better to ignore Apapa than to attack him over political differences.
He stressed that the action has shown that some Nigerians are not different from some officials in the Nigeria Police Force in the habit of dehumanizing citizens.
“Almost daily, Nigerians come on social media to complain about police brutality. But look at what Nigerians did to Lamidi Apapa, a factional national chairman of the Labour Party at the PEPC today.
"If many of us are given the power the police have, we will do far worse than their complained behaviour. There is a Seun Kuti in most of us. It would have even been better to have ignored Lamidi Apapa if you disagreed with him. Treat him like a pariah. But to mob him in front of a court? Very undemocratic,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal resumed hearing in a suit of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate challenging the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 25th February election. Meanwhile, the hearing was adjourned until Friday.
