On Wednesday, a High Court in Kaduna State issued an order for the forfeiture of assets belonging to convict Stanley Julius to the Federal Government. The assets include an iPhone 14 Promax, two HP laptops, a Mercedes Benz car, and a sum of N4 million in cash.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dairus Khobo, also sentenced Julius to 12 months imprisonment with an option of N250, 000 fine, after he plead guilty to internet fraud.
Earlier, the EFCC Counsel, E. K. Garba told the court that the convict was arrested following actionable intelligence about the activities of syndicates of fraudsters operating in Karatudu Kaduna and environs.
Garba said the convict posed as a foreigner and in such character, defrauded unsuspecting victims by luring them into fake social relationships using mostly the social media app, Telegraph.
The prosecution added that the convict used some of the money he acquired from fraudulent activities to buy a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 2013 model car.
He also said N4 million was found in his possession.
He noted that the convict committed an offence punishable under the provisions of Section 319 (a) of the Penal Code.
Following his plea and extra-judicial statements, the prosecution reviewed the facts of the case and tendered the statements, phones and 2 HP laptops recovered from him at the point of arrest as evidence.
Garba urged the court to convict Julius in line with his plea and the exhibits tendered before it.
