A CL60 jet operated by Triton Aviation lost a door shortly after take-off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday.
The aircraft, registration T7-SEI, was heading to Lagos when the incident happened at about 4:20pm.
The crew sent a Mayday call and was told to return to Abuja.
The plane landed safely on Runway 22 about 14 minutes later.
The door was found missing from the fuselage.
Airport fire, rescue and medical teams had been placed on standby.
Farmers later found the door on a farm in the Abuja area and reportedly handed it over.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the incident but said the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau is handling the matter.
A source at the bureau said investigators have been deployed.
The number of people on board has not been confirmed, and Triton Aviation had not responded to requests for comment.
