The source also alleged that several calls had been made to Oghenekevwe concerning the money but he no longer answered calls made to his phone number.

A Nigerian man, Mr. Atubi Johnson Oghenekevwe who is reportedly working with the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, and who is the supposed registered surety of Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, the Delta State Take-It-Back Coordinator, has reportedly done something strange.

He allegedly diverted the sum of N200,000 he collected for the fulfillment of the bail condition of the detained human rights activist.

SaharaReporters had reported that men of the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Police Command had arrested and illegally detained Aghogho after he accused the Assistant Inspector General, Zone 5 Benin, Lawan Tanko Jimeta, of compromising an ongoing child trafficking investigation involving Delta State Government officials, police officers and a retired chief judge among others.

The activist had in a petition to the former Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali, alleged that Jimeta had tried everything possible to frustrate investigations into the case, urging the IGP to caution the AIG “if he the IGP is not part of the deal as officers in the zone boast about".

In June 2022, the Magistrate Court 1 in Delta State ordered that Aghogho be remanded at the Ogwashuku Federal Prison over trumped-up allegations of “defamatory, cybercrime, false information.”

In October 2022, he was transferred to the Medium and Security Custodial Prison located in the Warri South Local Government Area of the State, by the prison authorities in a plot to frustrate his bail as his trial continued at the Federal High Court sitting in Warri.

It had been gathered that on the next adjourned date, June 1, 2023, counsel for Aghogho, Kunle Edun, was to move the Notice of Preliminary Objection he filed on February 2, 2023, on the instruction of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), to dismiss the frivolous charges filed against Aghogho for want of jurisdiction.

On Wednesday, a reliable source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Atubi Johnson Oghenekevwe who was working with Federal High Court, Warri Division as Aghogho’s supposed registered surety collected and diverted the sum of N200,000 meant to fulfill the activist’s bail condition and secure his release from detention.

The source also alleged that several calls had been made to Oghenekevwe concerning the money but he no longer answered calls made to his phone number.

All attempts by SaharaReporters to get Oghenekevwe’s comments on the allegation failed as he did not answer calls made to his phone number nor respond to text a message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
