A Nigerian man has taken to Twitter to disclose that he blocked his father on the microblogging platform for telling him to reduce the way he criticizes the government.

The user with the handle, @LawrenceOkoroPG also shared his interaction with his father.

According to Lawrence, his father is concerned about his political views while expressing concerns for his safety.

The young man, however, questioned his father, “If you are afraid of risking your own life, who will step up to fight for a better Nigeria and its future generations?”

He concluded their discussion by blocking his father on the platform.

He also stated that he will keep criticizing the oppressors of the country until they decide to do the right thing.

He Wrote;

“I BLOCKED MY FATHER ON TWITTER TODAY.

Earlier today my dad called and wanted to see me.

I rushed there as it sounded urgent.

He didn’t waste time in passing across his concerns over my safety as he has been following my tweets and outspoken nature.

He pleaded that I quit tweeting until the country becomes a better place where authorities can be criticized without being afraid of your safety.

Then I asked a simple question — whose children will then fight for a better Nigeria, if you’re scared to lose yours.

We were both silent for some good seconds, until I gave him a hug, opened the little fridge beside his bed and opened 2 chilled bottles of beers for the both of us. Couple of minutes later I drove off.

This evening I decided to block him for his peace of mind. If he doesn’t see the tweets there won’t be need to fear or worry.

Dear oppressors, I blocked my father because of you, I’m fully ready to go all the way in speaking truth to power until you relinquish power to where it truly belongs.

My love for Nigeria supercedes everything right now.”
