By-Election: Restriction On Movement Only in Surulere - Lagos Police

Posted by Thandiubani on Fri 02nd Feb, 2024 - tori.ng

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this clarification on Friday, on his X account, @BenHundeyin.

The Lagos State Police Command has made a clarification regarding restriction of vehicular movement for the state by-election on Saturday.

It said the restriction of movement applies to only the Surulere area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this clarification on Friday, on his X account, @BenHundeyin.

This clarification is coming following an order by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, that there will be a restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, airspaces, and other forms of transportation from 12 am to 6 pm in the 26 states including Lagos State where the Independent National Electoral Commission will be holding by-elections on Saturday.

However, the IG’s Thursday order did not clarify the affected constituencies in each state.

Hundeyin, however, clarified that apart from the areas where the by-elections will be held, there will be free movement.

He wrote, “This is to announce to the general public that during the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, there will be restriction of movement in the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I only.

“However, Funsho Williams Avenue will be free for passage only. Movement into and out of feeder roads off Funsho Williams Avenue will not be permitted. For other parts of Lagos State, there is absolutely no restriction of movement.”

The Surulere seat in the House of Representatives became vacant following the resignation of the former occupant, Femi Gbajabiamila, who after winning, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff.
