A former editor of the Saturday Tribune, Laolu Akande, has been appointed by President Buhari on Monday, June 22, 2015.
President Buhari has picked Laolu Akande, a journalist resident in the US, as the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Akande, a former editor of Saturday Tribune, was appointed on Monday, June 22, 2015.
Buhari is also expected to name other officials who will work in his administration this week.
Akande is also a pastor and a former North American Bureau Chief of The Guardian.
He reportedly moved to the US in 1997 due to harassment suffered under the administration of late dictator, Sani Abacha.
He also worked briefly at the United Nations as a press officer and later as advocacy consultant between 2002 and 2004.
