Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have killed at least two suspected armed robbers during an operation near Capital Hub in Jahi, Abuja.
A statement by Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, said the operation, which was carried out on July 22, also led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two cars suspected to have been stolen from unsuspecting residents.
The PPRO explained that the operatives, while on crime prevention patrol, intercepted a group of four armed men, who were attempting to snatch a black Prado Jeep from the owner.
She said on sighting the police operatives, the assailants opened fire, which resulted in a gun duel.
According to her, the criminal elements were overpowered by the police operatives, who gunned down two of the suspects and subsequently arrested one Joshua Godfrey A.K.A. Dogo and Abdulsalam Mamuda both of Mabushi village.
She said a blue Toyota Matrix operational vehicle with Reg. No. BWR 626 JB, belonging to the suspects, was recovered.
“The two arrested suspects subsequently led police operatives to the recovery of another red Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. RBC 743 AH, which must have been snatched from an innocent resident.
“Exhibits such as arms, cutlass, dagger, scissors, and mobile phones were recovered from them,” Josephine said.
