The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old social media user, Mustapha Mohammed, over false allegations.
The Police said in a statement obtained Friday that Mustapha fabricated a statement on his Facebook page on May 30, 2024 against the member representing Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.
“The arrest followed a formal complaint made to the Commissioner of Police by the Council to Hon. Magaji, alleging that Mustapha Mohammed caused a reputational harm by falsely accusing him of withholding money owed to him, just to destroy his reputation in an unfair and dishonest manner, thereby assassinating his Character,” the police said.
In the statement signed by the Adamawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the Police added that the suspect was being held also because sometime last year, he misappropriated three sets of computer accessories meant for a constituency project.
The police said Mustapha converted the items to his personal use, thereby causing wrongful gain to himself and wrongful loss to the Constituency.
The police said that during investigation over the alleged offensive facebook posting, it was revealed that Mustapha Mohammed had indeed made the posts on his personal Facebook account deliberately to harm his reputation.
“The Adamawa State Police Command warns members of the public to avoid disseminating false accusations, hate speeches and fake news/comments on social media platforms,” the statement added.
