The Labour Party (LP) has disassociated itself from any coalition talks involving key opposition figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai under the umbrella of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Darlington Nwokocha, the Interim National Secretary of  a faction of the Labour Party, stated on Friday that the party is "unaware" of any such alliance.

Nwokocha emphasised that the LP maintains its own internal structure and has not officially joined any coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the reported participation of Peter Obi, the LP's 2023 presidential flagbearer, in coalition activities, Nwokocha clarified that while Obi is a highly respected figure within the party, his individual engagements do not signify the Labour Party's official alignment with any such alliance.

Nwokocha said: "Peter Obi is an individual. We respect him because he was our flagbearer for 2023, like every other person.

“We give him that respect. Even if he decides to move around, that does not mean that he has joined ADC or whatever. He is a mature person who should interact freely – cross-pollination of ideas is allowed.”
