
The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Odinka, for stabbing his 75-year-old father, Denius Odinka, to de@th during an argument over proceeds from a land sale.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, said operatives of the Orlu Division made the arrest on Tuesday in Amaifeke, Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
“Operatives of Orlu Division, on 12th August, 2025, apprehended one Ifeanyi Odinka ‘m’, 39 years, of Amaifeke Orlu, for stabbing his father, Denius Odinka ‘m’, 75 years, to de@th following a dispute over proceeds from a land sale,” Henry said.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.”
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri, for further investigation and prosecution.
“The Command urges Imolites to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report all suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” the police statement added.
Land disputes remain a frequent source of violent conflict in Nigeria, often pitting family members against one another over inheritance, sales, and boundary disagreements.
In recent years, the Imo State Police Command has handled multiple homicide cases linked to land-related quarrels, particularly in rural communities where land ownership is a significant source of livelihood and identity.
Police have not disclosed further details on the nature of the dispute.

Following a report to the police, the two men were arrested. They reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted to being in a homosexual relationship.
