Ntiedo Effiong Usoro, Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, has come under fire after proudly showcasing the equipment he supplied to a local security unit to combat insecurity.
Usoro took photos while presenting the equipment to the security personnel.
He shared the photos on Facebook and wrote: "Yesterday, in my office, I provided the council local security unit with the necessary equipment to protect the council secretariat and other government facilities within its premises."

The so-called "necessary equipment" included machetes, torch lights, rain coats, and rain boots.

Nigerians have since trooped to Usoro's post to criticise him.
While some asked what an old man like the security guard pictured with him can do to secure the neighbourhood, others questioned how the security personnel would stand a change against gun-wielding bandits.
