A Nigerian-Canadian single father of three has appealed to the public for financial assistance to help him relocate his family from Canada to Nigeria after enduring prolonged financial hardship.

Barrister Isaac Olusegun, a legal practitioner, shared his story in a social media post, revealing that he has struggled to find stable employment since 2024 despite submitting numerous job applications.

According to him, the situation has left him unable to adequately provide for his children, forcing him to rely on loans and the kindness of others just to put food on the table.

In his appeal, he explained that his family's financial situation worsened after his Canada Child Benefit failed to arrive while his Ontario Works assistance, worth roughly CAD 377 monthly, came to an end, making it increasingly difficult to care for his three children.

He said he was reaching out during one of the hardest periods of his life, unable to meet his family's basic needs, and had been depending on loans and the generosity of others to feed his children after losing both sources of income.

Although he said he remains hopeful about finding work, particularly after recently receiving encouraging responses to job applications, Isaac said his most urgent priority is relocating his family to Nigeria.

He noted that his children's schooling had also been disrupted, making it harder for him to actively seek and hold down employment, and said his greatest need at this time is support to relocate his family to Nigeria, where he has an established support network and can begin rebuilding their lives.

He added that any contribution, no matter how small, would help provide food for his children and go toward relocation costs.

To raise the needed funds, Isaac launched an online fundraising campaign with a target of CAD 6,000. As of the time his story gained attention, the campaign had already raised CAD 3,588, moving him closer to his goal. He also encouraged those unable to donate to help by sharing his appeal with others.

Speaking about what led to his financial struggles, Isaac claimed his problems began after he filed lawsuits against the Canadian government and other institutions in Ontario.

He alleged that in response, the government moved quickly to pass legislation that curtailed the authority of organisations such as CPA Ontario and the Ottawa-Carleton School Board.

He said that feeling pressured and with limited options, he travelled to Nigeria in April 2025 and returned around January of this year, hoping the situation would have calmed down in his absence.

However, he said that since returning, he has experienced what he believes to be retaliation from Canadian government employees, affecting both himself and his three children, and that he has been unable to secure work or access any form of benefits since then.
