5 Year Old Boy Shot in Florida Drive By Attack After Family Dispute

A mother and her 5-year-old son were shot during a drive-by attack in Florida after an altercation earlier that evening spiraled into violence.

The family was heading home around 9:45 p.m. on Monday when another vehicle pulled alongside theirs and opened fire.

The mother was struck in the hand, and the child was hit in the chest.

Police said the boy initially appeared critical but is expected to survive.

The shooting grew out of a conflict between children aged 10 to 16 in an apartment complex parking lot around 8 p.m.

Adults soon became involved, and the situation escalated before police arrived and broke it up.

The family that was later attacked had been visiting relatives at that same location.

As they drove away from the complex, someone in a second vehicle followed them and fired.

The shooter left the scene, and no one has been arrested.

Ocala police are still searching for the suspect.
