Former West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has had emergency surgery after suffering a stroke in Seville, Spain.
The 63 year old is in the intensive care unit at Hospital Virgen del Rocío.
The stroke happened on Sunday, November 1.
Sources at Real Betis, where Mel had two spells as manager, said the operation went well.
He is still in hospital and waiting for more tests.
The news was released on Monday, according to Spanish paper AS.
Mel has been without a club since March 2026, when he left Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger.
Several clubs he once coached have sent good wishes. Real Betis, UD Las Palmas and Rayo Vallecano all said they hope he makes a full recovery.
During his career, Mel also managed Deportivo La Coruña, Malaga, Almeria and Tenerife.
He led Betis back into Spain's top flight twice.
He spent four months at West Brom in 2014, winning three of his 17 matches.
