Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze will miss Nigeria's upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania after having surgery in London to repair a hip injury.
The AC Milan forward picked up the problem in October, just as he was settling into a new role as a wing back under former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.
He had been impressing with his attacking play and work rate, and had two assists in eight games for the club before the injury.
The injury has also kept him out of Milan's recent matches against Udinese, Inter Milan and Bologna, as well as their game against Bournemouth.
AC Milan said in an official statement that Chukwueze had surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hip.
The operation was carried out in London by Professor Ernest Schilders, with Milan medical staff member Stefano Mazzoni in attendance.
He is expected to return to Italy to begin rehabilitation.
The focus now is on a full recovery without rushing back.
His absence leaves Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle with one fewer attacking option for the two qualifiers this month.
