Saraki's Wife Represents Aisha Buhari at African First Ladies Summit in NY

 

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Aisha Buhari, has been represented by the wife of the embattled Senate President, Toyin Saraki, at an event for all the African first ladies across the world in New York.

 

The summit is to assess and modify effective means of contributing to the Millennium Development Goals and new perspectives on HIV and AIDS.

 

In her speech, Aisha Buhari, lamented that the Boko Haram insurgency was affecting health care for women and children. She called for proper care for Internally Displaced Persons and affirmed the need to continually do more, especially in the areas of maternal health and child mortality.

 

In his address, executive director of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, said girl child education remained key to the development framework all over Africa. He further advocated adequate investment in women and girls.
