Did Nina Dobrev, lead actress of 'The Vampire Diaries' leave hit series over failed relationship with co-star, Ian Somehalder?

More facts have emerged as to why lead actress of 'The Vampire Diaries', Nina Dobrev, left the hit series after completing her six-season contract. It was speculated she left because of her failed relationship with a fellow co-star on the TV show but the producers have revealed the real reason for her exit.

As fans of 'The Vampire Diaries' come to terms with lead actress, Nina Dobrev's decision to draw the curtains on her appearance in the hit TV series, it has emerged that producers begged the Bulgarian-born Canadian star to stay on.

The 26-year old actress, who has now left the TV show, wanted to stop filming earlier, but the show's creator, Julie Plec, talked her out of it, as she was so close to finishing her six-season contract.

Julie said: "Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done, and we spent a little time trying to talk her out of it. (We'd say,) 'Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!'".

Despite rumours that Nina, who played the characters known as Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce and Amara in 'TVD', was keen to leave the show because of her failed relationship with co-star, Damon Salvatore played by Ian Somehalder - who recently got married to Nikki Reed - Julie is insistent there weren't any "hard feelings" around her exit.

Speaking on the KCRW podcast, the show's creator said: "(Nina) was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama.

"She finally was like, 'No, I signed up for six years. I've done my six years. I'm ready to move on and spread my wings'".
Dobrev is perhaps best known for her role as Mia Jones in 'Degrassi: The Next Generation'.

Meanwhile, in what might be another heartbreak for ardent followers of TVD, Michael Trevino, who plays the show's former werewolf turned Vampire, Tyler Lockwood, will also be leaving his role as a series regular.
