Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq
Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced the donation of his salaries in the last 10 months to support the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary Rafiu Ajakaiye, the governor said since he assumed office in May 2019, he ''never received any salary'' and that he will be donating the accumulated sum to help provide palliative measures to the vulnerable in Kwara state as Nigeria battles Coronavirus pandemic.
“Whereas our state has no confirmed case of Coronavirus as at now, we have been taking every step necessary to ensure we keep Kwara safe. Such measures have included keeping our people at home while we ramp up investments in our capacity to cope with this global health emergency.
This time calls for sacrifice from everyone as humanity needs all the help it can get. For this reason, I am hereby donating 100% of my monthly salary.
Since I was inaugurated, I have not taken my salary. I am now donating the accumulated sum, from May 29 to date, to help provide palliative measures to the vulnerable among our people who have been asked to stay at home, and boost our capacity to cope against the Covid-19 if it ever comes to Kwara State."
Kwara state has not recorded any case of Coronavirus since the outbreak in February this year.
