Nurse in Trouble for Ignoring Bleeding Patient With Serious Head Injury Because She Was on Break

A nurse is in serious trouble and at the risk of losing her job after allegedly abandoning a patient who was seriously bleeding from his head during an emergency.

A nurse is at the risk of losing her job after she allegedly ignored a patient who was bleeding from the head because she was on her break at the time and did not want to be disturbed, a court in the United Kingdom heard.

The nurse identified as Minimol Chacko, who worked at Wheatfield Court Care Home, Newcastle, ignored call for help when another nurse found the patient lying on the floor of his room and bleeding from the head. Chacko also ignored a rash on the patient's stomach. Chacko is also accused of failing to help a patient suffering from bedsores.

This was revealed after paramedics who responded to the scene at the Wheatfield Court Care Home, filed a complaint against the nurse for refusing to help them care for a patient.

Henry Vallance, on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) told the hearing: ‘During the course of that break another nurse found Patient A lying on the floor of her room, bleeding from her head.

‘It is alleged that the registrant initially refused to assist the nurse with the care because she was on her break.’

After being persuaded to help, Chacko went back on her break before the arrival of the ambulance staff.

'Mr Vallance told the hearing that the ambulance crew who arrived to help the patient reported Chacko’s actions as a result of their questions about the patient going unanswered.

‘Whilst waiting for the ambulance crew the registrant should have conducted neurological tests. Because the registrant had gone back on her break those questions went largely unanswered.

‘It was inappropriate for the registrant to have gone back on her break.’

Chacko denied all the allegations as investigation on the case continues.
