In what will come across as a really startling development, an irate mob has reportedly overpowered a vigilante group, setting a suspected thief ablaze in Warri, Delta State.
The Police Rapid Response Team from “A” Division in Warri had arrested a four-man gang, including 22-year-old Efe David, with three others fleeing the scene.
The gang had allegedly snatched a tricycle with registration number FHR 600 QF at Hausa Quarters.
The fleeing suspects escaped from the crime scene with the snatched tricycle following a hot chase by the police.
Based on the information, one of the fleeing suspects was arrested by the vigilante with the snatched tricycle just as the remaining two others escaped.
The Delta State Police Command, led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, confirmed the report in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.
“The vigilante was overpowered by an irate mob who delivered instant jungle justice in the suspect.
“The tricycle, cut to size double barrel gun with two live cartridges and some suspected stolen pieces of gold plated jewelry were recovered,” he said.
The Police image maker said, “investigation is ongoing.”
